Titleist Tips: Strategy for Teeing Up the Golf Ball
In this video, Titleist staff instructor John Kostis shares some thoughts on what he calls “the number one advantage we all get, every time you play” - the ability to tee the golf ball up 18 times, every round. As John explains, this freedom to tee the ball up wherever you like (within the boundary width of the tee markers and no more than two club lengths behind the markers) gives you the ability to play the angles better.
For example, if you naturally fade the ball, teeing the ball up on the right side of the tee box will effectively widen the fairway for you. You can aim down the left side of the hole and your natural ball flight will bring the ball back to a safe landing spot in the fairway. Conversely, if you were to tee the ball up on the left side of the tee box, you could hit a quality shot that also starts down the left side. But fitting your natural curve into this more narrow angle is more difficult. Your ball has a much greater chance of landing further right and finding trouble right.
Give John’s strategy a try and see how it can improve your odds off the tee.
