Titleist Tips: Rotate Your Head on Finesse Wedge Shots
When playing finesse wedge shots, a key to making clean contact with the golf ball is to shift your center of mass towards your lead side and the target. However, this shift has the effect of steepening the angle of attack. To hit a quality shot you must do something to counteract this steep path downward.
As Dr. Rob Neal, co-founder of WedgeCraft, explains in this video, rotating your torso through the shot will help shallow out the angle of attack. So will extending your spine, straightening up slightly through impact. But there’s one other mechanism that is often over-looked and that will help your body to both rotate and extend naturally. The best wedge players allow their heads to rotate open on finesse shots, facing the target early as they strike the ball. When properly timed, this move will help you improve your touch as well as your consistency on delicate shots around the green.
